Kandy - Putthalam
Sri Lanka’s last royal capital sits in a valley encircled by mist-draped hills at 465 metres above sea level. The sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic — one of the most venerated Buddhist sites in the world — rises beside the serene Kandy Lake.
The city comes alive each August during the Esala Perahera, one of Asia’s grandest processions, featuring costumed dancers, drummers and decorated elephants. The nearby Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya house over 4,000 plant species.
